FAQs

Before your initial consultation, we will invite you to use our free online tool, allowing you to gather relevant information in your own time. This way, you can make the most of your time with your lawyer, as we focus on providing advice and developing a tailored strategy. If your matter involves property and financial settlement, some of the things we will ask for are details of the assets, debts and superannuation. If you have children, details of their names, dates of births, where they go to school and any special needs they may have.

You are welcome to bring a support person with you to your initial consultation. Having someone by your side can provide additional comfort and support.

We recommend writing down any questions you may have prior to your meeting. This ensures that we address all your concerns and provide you with the necessary information during our meeting.

By taking these steps, you can come prepared for your initial consultation, allowing us to provide you with the most comprehensive advice and guidance tailored to your specific circumstances.

We offer a fixed fee starting at $450 (incl. GST) for your initial consultation. Your initial consultation will be with one of our highly experienced Senior Family Lawyers. If your appointment is in person, you will be required to pay at the time of your consultation. If your initial appointment is by telephone or videoconference, you will be required to pay prior to your appointment.

You can expect to leave the initial consultation with your mind at ease, having a better understanding of your legal position and the options available to you.

If you choose to engage us as your lawyers, we will issue you with our fee agreement. The fee agreement sets out how we charge for the work we will do and provides an estimate of what different stages of your matter might cost. Once you sign the fee agreement, we will promptly start working on your matter and implementing the strategy. We will discuss costs in the initial consultation.

There are no obligations to continue working with us after the initial consultation. You may feel you have the tools and confidence you need to put measures in place to move on with your life.

At Orbell Family Lawyers, we prioritise transparency in our fee structure, ensuring that you are fully aware of the likely costs before we start working with you. We offer a fixed price for your initial consultation, allowing you to decide if we are the right fit for you.

What sets us apart is our diverse team of highly experienced family law professionals, including Accredited Family Law Specialists and Mediators with extensive expertise in complex family law matters, experienced family lawyers, paralegals and dedicated support staff. Our hourly rates reflect the calibre of our specialist family law team and the quality advice and support you can expect.

While we strive to keep our prices competitive, our focus remains on consistently delivering excellent service and guidance to our valued clients.

Our experienced family lawyers will explore all avenues available to resolve your family law matter efficiently and cost-effectively. At Orbell Family Lawyers, we offer mediation services and will try our very best to finalise your case without going to Court.

However, there are some circumstances that might make going to Court the best thing for you and your family. If we agree that going to Court is in your interest, our experienced family lawyers are skilled advocates prepared to support you throughout the process.  97% of our cases are resolved without going to Court, and even if a Court case is started, the majority are resolved before reaching a final hearing or if a Court case is started, before a final hearing.

Our goal is to explore all possible avenues for settlement while ensuring your interests are protected.

Yes, you can. But it is essential you meet with one of our experienced family lawyers to ensure that any agreement you have reached is ‘fair’ and in your interest. We strongly recommend you talk to us about the advantages of formalising your agreement into a legally binding document. By doing so, you can avoid the potential need to go to Court later, saving you time, money and unnecessary stress. Our team is here to guide you through this process and ensure your interests are protected.
